Jewellery E-commerce Website Checklist: 12 Things to Get Right

A practical checklist for jewellers selling online: photos, product details, trust, pricing, checkout and SEO that turn browsers into buyers.

By Ajeet Khandelwal, Head of Operations, Efforts Unlimited

Selling jewellery online is different from selling most products. Pieces are often high in value, customers want to see every detail, and trust matters enormously. A website that works for clothing or electronics can fall short for jewellery.

Here are twelve things we check on every jewellery e-commerce website we build.

Products and photos

1. Several sharp photos for every piece. Show the front, side, back, clasp and a close-up of stones and finish. Customers zoom in, so use high-resolution images and let them zoom.

2. Consistent styling across the catalogue. Matching backgrounds, lighting and angles make a collection look premium. AI product photo editing can make existing photos consistent without a full reshoot.

3. On-model or scale photos. Customers struggle to judge size from a product photo alone. Show the piece being worn, or next to a familiar object.

4. Complete product details. Metal and purity, gemstone type and weight, total weight, dimensions, finish, certification and care instructions. Missing details lead to hesitation and returns.

Trust

5. Certification and hallmarking, clearly shown. If your pieces are hallmarked or certified, say so on every relevant product page, with an example certificate if possible.

6. Clear policies. Shipping, insurance, returns, exchanges and buyback or lifetime exchange policies should be easy to find and written in plain language.

7. Real people and a real store. Show your showroom, your team and how long you have been in business. Reviews from real customers help too.

Pricing and buying

8. Decide how to handle prices. Many jewellers show prices for ready stock and use “price on request” for high-value or custom pieces. Whichever you choose, be consistent, and make the enquiry option as easy as buying.

9. A short, secure checkout. Guest checkout, popular payment options including UPI, clear delivery estimates and no surprise charges at the last step.

10. A quick way to ask. Jewellery buyers often have one question before they decide. A visible WhatsApp button or an assistant that answers instantly keeps them from leaving.

Being found

11. Product and category pages built for search. Customers search for specific things, such as “22k gold bangles for wedding” or “emerald ring silver”. Category pages written around these searches, unique product descriptions and Product structured data help you appear for them. See our SEO services.

12. Fast pages, even with large galleries. Image-heavy pages are slow if images aren’t optimised. Modern formats, correct sizing and lazy loading keep pages fast on mobile.

Bringing it together

A jewellery website that sells online combines beautiful, honest product presentation with clear trust signals and an easy path to buy or ask. Most of these points are simple on their own; the difference comes from getting all twelve right together.

We build online stores for jewellers and gem houses, including Silver & Gem Exports and Ratna Bhandar. If you’re planning a new store or improving an existing one, see our e-commerce development service.
